Who needs what license
Home improvement work on existing homes needs a state MHIC license. The county issues certain trade and commercial licenses itself: I&P licenses.
Common permits
Not sure if you need a permit? Use the county's Do I Need a Permit tool. Waterfront, grading and stormwater work often brings extra review; see the county's Blue Notices.
How to apply
- Since Dec 1, 2025, almost all new applications must be filed online through LUN. Kiosks with scanners are at the Permit Center.
